NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) assured the public on Wednesday (Sept. 25) that the city's urban renewal projects maintain transparency and fairness.
Mayor Hou responded to concerns raised by New Taipei City Councilor Cho Kuan-ting (卓冠廷) during a council session earlier that day.
Cho questioned Mayor Hou about the possibility of New Taipei experiencing issues similar to Taipei's Core Pacific City (京華城) redevelopment project, which faced scrutiny over an 800% floor area ratio bonus.
Hou emphasized that New Taipei's urban renewal efforts are conducted transparently, utilizing floor area ratio incentives. He stated, "I'm confident that it won't happen," reiterating that all procedures are publicly accessible online, ensuring accountability.
Prosecutors have been probing the case for several months, with former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲), former Taipei Deputy Mayor Peng Cheng-sheng (彭振聲), Core Pacific Group (威京集團) Chairman Shen Ching-ching (沈慶京), Taipei City Councilor Angela Ying (應曉薇), and her assistant Wu Shun-min (吳順民) being detained for further investigation.
