TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan condemned China on Thursday (Sept. 26) for launching an intercontinental ballistic missile into the Pacific Ocean, calling the act a threat to regional peace.

Presidential Office Spokesperson Karen Kuo (郭雅慧) expressed stern condemnation, urging China to show restraint and return to international norms.

China launched the missile at 8:44 a.m. a day earlier, raising concerns about regional stability. Kuo noted that China has recently conducted various military exercises in the region, further threatening peace.

Kuo called on China to become a responsible member of the region and defend a rules-based international order.

Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部) also condemned China's continued military actions, which threaten regional peace despite global efforts to ensure security and stability.

Kuo emphasized that maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific is an international consensus. She pointed to recent affirmations from the Quad and G7 foreign ministers at the U.N. General Assembly, which highlighted the importance of regional security for global prosperity.

Kuo reiterated Taiwan's commitment to standing with the global democratic community to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the broader region.
