TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taichung City Government announced on Friday (Sept. 27) it will revoke the operational rights of Geya Bus Transportation Co., Ltd. (巨業交通) for its most profitable Route 300 for three months.

Authorities took this action after a fatal accident involving a Geya bus and two Tunghai University (東海大學) students.

On Sept. 22, a Geya bus on Route 305 struck two female students at an intersection near Miyahara Eye Clinic in Taichung's Central District. The collision resulted in one death and one injury. The city government stated that the bus driver failed to heed warning signals from the vehicle's auxiliary system, leading to the accident.

In response, the city government has implemented five major measures, including heavy fines and mandatory retraining for 1,300 drivers.

The Taichung Transportation Bureau also imposed the harshest penalty by revoking Geya's Route 300 operating rights for three months. Starting tomorrow, United Highway Ubus Company Limited (統聯客運) and Taichung Bus (台中客運) will take over the route's operations.

The driver involved in the incident, surnamed Shih, claimed poor visibility prevented him from seeing the pedestrians. Police have charged him with negligent homicide and released him on bail set at NT$10,000.

The city government warned that if Geya fails to improve or commits further violations, it will permanently revoke the route's operational rights. This decisive action underscores the city's commitment to ensuring public safety and holding transportation companies accountable.
