TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) acknowledged Typhoon Krathon's inaccurate predictions using AI models, highlighting the need for further improvement.

Veteran journalist Huang Kuang-chin (黃光芹) criticized the AI model developed in collaboration with NVIDIA, citing its late start and lack of a comprehensive database. Huang expressed concerns over the repeated adjustments in predicting Typhoon Krathon's landfall time and location.

Reports noted that this generative AI model, which can enhance weather data resolution from 25 kilometers to 2 kilometers, proved effective during Typhoon Gaemi in July.

Chen I-liang (陳怡良), director of the Weather Forecast Center (氣象預報中心), stated that AI forecasts are currently in use, but other prediction models may perform equally well. Chen emphasized that the administration considers various forecasting models and will adjust predictions based on the latest data.
