TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan will celebrate its National Day on Thursday (Oct. 10) with a grand ceremony in front of the Presidential Office Building, themed “Happy Birthday, Republic of China.”

While the country has experienced rainy weather recently, the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) predicts mostly cloudy to sunny skies in western Taiwan on National Day.

The ceremony will feature leaders from various political parties, including Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) Chairman Eric Chu (朱立倫), former President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九), and former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文).

Although Taiwan People’s Party (TPP, 民眾黨) Chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) is detained due to the Core Pacific City (京華城) corruption scandal, a seat has been reserved for him by the organizing committee. Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜), the committee head, extended the invitation.

TPP spokesperson Celina Wu (吳怡萱) expressed gratitude on Wednesday for the invitation from the National Day Preparation Committee (國慶籌備委員會) and thanked Speaker Han for his attention to detail during the ceremony’s preparation.

Several foreign dignitaries have arrived in Taiwan for the celebration, including Tuvalu Prime Minister Feleti Penitala Teo, Senate President Alvina Reynolds of Saint Lucia, and Speaker Claudius J. Francis of Saint Lucia.

In a press release on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部) announced that an all-party parliamentary group from Japan is also visiting Taiwan. They are scheduled to meet with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and Deputy Legislative Speaker Johnny Chiang (江啟臣).
