TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Agriculture (MOA, 農業部) announced on Thursday (Oct. 17) plans to expand diverse channels for egg distribution to match processing needs. The move comes amid a recent surplus in egg production, leading to a price drop. Agriculture Minister Chen Junne-jih (陳駿季) addressed the issue during a session at the "Economics Committee" (立法院經濟委員會).

Minister Chen emphasized that stabilizing production and sales is a shared responsibility between the industry and the MOA. He noted the current drop in egg prices and stated that the ministry will provide data on the number of laying hens and daily production to help businesses adjust accordingly.

The minister also highlighted plans to increase the use of eggs beyond fresh consumption, pointing to their potential in various processing avenues. This initiative aims to alleviate the current surplus, which egg producers reported has exceeded daily production by 1 million eggs. This has caused farm prices to drop from NT$24.5 to NT$21.5 per catty.
