TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部) has formed a task force to address a recent demand from the South African government, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) announced Monday (Oct. 21). Media reported that South Africa has requested that Taiwan's representative office be relocated from Pretoria by Oct. 30, leaving no room for negotiation.
Foreign Minister Lin reported to the Foreign and National Defense Committee (外交及國防委員會) that South Africa's action breaches the bilateral framework established in 1997. Lin underscored Taiwan's commitment to defending its national interests and urged both governments to resolve the issue through dialogue.
