TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA, 經濟部) on Monday (Oct. 21) reaffirmed the administration's unified stance on nuclear power, emphasizing the need to ensure nuclear safety, manage nuclear waste, and achieve societal consensus.

During a Bloomberg interview, Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) signaled a potential shift in Taiwan's anti-nuclear stance, stating the country remains open to adopting new nuclear technologies. The MOEA expressed an open attitude toward all new energy technologies and committed to closely monitoring developments.

Economic Minister J. W. Kuo (郭智輝) highlighted the potential of geothermal energy, citing a deep geothermal well drilling he inspected, which revealed a 40GW power generation potential in Taiwan's deep geothermal resources.

MOEA thanked Premier Cho for his concern about talent retention in Taiwan Power Company's (台電) nuclear sector. Minister Kuo also prioritized talent retention at Taiwan Power Company, particularly concerning future nuclear back-end processing and new technology research. He tasked the company with drafting a talent retention plan.
