TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) reported Tuesday (Oct. 22) intermittent rain in Keelung's north coast, Yilan, and Greater Taipei's mountainous areas.

The northeast monsoon intensified in the afternoon, bringing sustained rainfall to these regions, with heavy rain likely in northeastern mountain areas.

North and eastern regions, along with the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島), saw occasional showers. At the same time, central and southern areas, as well as Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu, enjoyed partly cloudy to sunny skies.

Temperatures dipped noticeably in the north and northeast, with daytime highs ranging from 28 to 33 degrees Celsius across Taiwan and Penghu and 26 degrees in Matsu. Lows hovered between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius.

Strong gusts affected coastal areas from Taoyuan to Yunlin, Orchid Island (蘭嶼), Green Island (綠島), and Penghu in the morning. In the afternoon, winds reached 9 to 11 levels in northern coastal areas and several islands, including Kinmen and Matsu, with eastern and southeastern coasts also experiencing strong gusts.

Typhoon Trami, which developed into the 20th typhoon of the year at 2 a.m., is expected to pass through Luzon and head towards the South China Sea. Authorities urge caution later this week regarding its potential impact on Taiwan's rainfall.

The Ministry of Environment (MOE, 環境部) indicated "good" air quality in the north, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Yilan, Hualien, Pingtung, and Penghu. At the same time, central areas and Matsu, Kinmen, and Tainan reported "moderate" air quality. Kaohsiung and Pingtung received an "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" warning.
