TAIPEI (TVBS News)—Meteorologists on Wednesday (Oct. 23) forecast significant rainfall across northern Taiwan, including Keelung's (基隆) north coast, Greater Taipei (大台北), and Yilan (宜蘭), as temperatures drop noticeably.

Morning lows in the northern plains hover around 20 degrees Celsius, with city lows at 21-22°C, according to Weather Risk Company (天氣風險公司) analyst Ou Tsung-hsueh (歐宗學).

Ou explained that Taiwan is caught between a continental cold high-pressure system to the north and Typhoon Trami (潭美颱風) to the south, intensifying wind patterns. The wind is expected to be strong along the coastal areas from Tainan (臺南) northward and the eastern regions.

Rainfall has become more pronounced today, with overcast skies already present from Taoyuan (桃園) northward and Yilan. Ou noted that the rain is expected to expand to areas north of Hsinchu (新竹) and the eastern regions, accumulating significantly in Keelung's north coast, Greater Taipei's mountainous areas, and Yilan.

Temperatures will continue to cool as the northeast monsoon moves south, with daytime highs only reaching 24-25°C. The temperatures will remain relatively cool throughout the day, significantly different from previous days, Ou warned, advising people to dress warmly to avoid catching a cold.

In central and southern regions, cloud cover will increase, but rainfall remains minimal. Temperatures will drop slightly by 1-2°C, but daytime warming will be more noticeable, resulting in a larger temperature difference between day and night. Travelers should remain vigilant about temperature changes.
