TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Trami (潭美), positioned 930 kilometers southeast of Cape Eluanbi (鵝鑾鼻), is expected to pass through Luzon Island (呂宋島) and enter the South China Sea, posing a low direct threat to Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) reported on Wednesday (Oct. 23).

Despite the distance, the CWA reported that Trami is expected to bring significant wind and rain to Taiwan. From tonight until Friday, windward areas could experience heavy rain or torrential downpours, with mountainous regions and the northern coast potentially facing localized torrential rain.

Additionally, the CWA noted the development of another tropical system east of the Philippines. If it intensifies into a typhoon, it will become Typhoon Kong-rey (康芮), the 21st typhoon of the year, with the potential to develop as early as Friday.

In the traditional Chinese 24 solar terms, Wednesday also marks "Frost Descent" (霜降), the last solar term of autumn. The northeast monsoon is strengthening, resulting in cool and damp weather in northern Taiwan, with temperatures ranging from 22 to 25 degrees Celsius. Other regions will enjoy warm and comfortable daytime highs between 28 and 30°C, with lows between 23 and 25°C.

The CWA further urged residents should stay informed about weather updates and prepare for potential heavy rainfall in affected areas.
