TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) urged the central government on Monday (Oct. 28) to tackle waste management issues at the source, aiming to address the root of the problem.

His comments came after Environment Minister Peng Chi-ming (彭啓明) highlighted Taipei's incinerator capacity and suggested the city assist other counties with burning their waste.

Chiang confirmed Taipei's ongoing support for Taoyuan, Yunlin, and Nantou in incinerating their garbage. He also noted that many of Taipei's incinerators are aging and require regular maintenance, emphasizing the need to burn the city's waste safely.

Mayor Chiang pointed out that Taipei has already achieved a 65% reduction in waste volume, underscoring the city's efforts in waste management.

Despite Minister Peng's remarks, Chiang denied feeling emotionally manipulated. However, he stated that Minister Peng has yet to visit or assist with Taipei's incinerator capacity issues.
