TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei District Court (台北地院) on Monday (Oct. 28) granted limited access to case files for former Taipei Deputy Mayor Peng Chen-sheng (彭振聲) and his lawyer in the ongoing scandal investigation involving the Core Pacific City (京華城) corruption scandal.

Authorities have detained Peng since Sept. 2, citing potential evidence tampering and inconsistencies in testimonies among co-defendants. Judge Chu Chia-yi (朱家毅), who previously ordered Peng's detention, will consider extending the detention beyond Nov. 1.

Prosecutors have requested this extension due to pending witness testimonies and concerns about Peng potentially colluding with co-defendants or witnesses. If the document review proceeds smoothly, the court may hold a detention hearing later Monday.

Prosecutors have interrogated Peng on multiple occasions, including Sept. 3, 4, 10, 12, 20, 25, and Oct. 4, 9, 11, 16, 17, and 23, to gather his statements and defenses. They argue that his release could hinder the effective pursuit of justice, given the gravity of the charges, including corruption and unexplained wealth.
