TAIPEI (TVBS News)—Taipei City councilors called on Friday (Nov. 1) for clearer guidelines on the closure of Taipei Arena (台北小巨蛋) during the typhoon.

The appeal followed Typhoon Kong-rey's impact on Taiwan Thursday, which led to a last-minute cancellation of Andy Lau's (劉德華) concert, sparking criticism.

Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) Councilor Chan Wei-yuan (詹為元) highlighted the ambiguity in Taipei Arena's lease terms, which only refer to "emergencies" without specifying typhoon conditions.

He pointed out the inconsistency between the lease's emergency provisions and the contracts with event organizers, allowing organizers to decide on cancellations during typhoons.

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) Councilor Sabrina Lim (林亮君) emphasized the need for uniform closure principles across all venues.

She argued that organizers and the Taipei City Government should bear responsibility for incidents occurring after venue rentals.

Furthermore, Lim urged the city government to establish clear guidelines, incorporating wind and rainfall data to minimize financial losses for event organizers.
