TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Kong-rey wreaked havoc across Taiwan, causing over NT$1.2 billion in agricultural losses, the Central Emergency Operation Center (CEOC, 中央災害應變中心) reported Monday (Nov. 4).

The Ministry of Agriculture (MOA, 農業部) identified Yunlin County and Hualien County as the most severely affected, with losses amounting to NT$327.71 million and NT$303.26 million, respectively. Pear crops suffered the most, incurring a loss of NT$233.22 million, followed by rice, sugar apples, garlic, and corn.

 

The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA, 經濟部) revealed that power outages initially affected 979,743 households nationwide, with 1,733 still awaiting repair. Officials expect complete restoration by 11 p.m. Monday. 

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC, 交通部) reported six highway disruptions, including a road collapse in Heping District (和平區) on Provincial Highway 8 (台8線). Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environment (MOENV, 環境部) confirmed the clearance of major roads in Hualien County and Taitung County, though some rural roads remain under cleanup.

The National Fire Agency (消防署) recorded 10,878 incidents, resulting in three deaths and 692 injuries. Due to a road collapse in Jianshih Township (尖石鄉), the agency deployed helicopters Monday morning to deliver supplies to Qalang Smangus (司馬庫斯).
 

The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW, 衛福部) reported two shelters in Kaohsiung City and Hualien County, housing 63 people.
