TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) congratulated U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday (Nov. 6) evening via a post on social media platform X, emphasizing the enduring Taiwan-U.S. partnership's role in fostering regional stability and economic prosperity.

Former National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien later shared Lai's congratulatory message, expressing gratitude and highlighting the significance of the election outcome, stating, "It was a great night for Americans and its partners. Thank you [Lai Ching-te] for congratulating our next president."

O'Brien is considered a potential candidate for Secretary of State in Trump's administration, alongside Taiwan-friendly Senator Marco Rubio and former Ambassador to Japan Bill Hagerty.

O'Brien, who received the Order of Brilliant Star with Special Grand Cordon from former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) last year, supports NATO and Ukraine within the Republican Party. His potential appointment as Secretary of State could receive a warm welcome from Europe and Ukraine.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump secured a return to the White House, as results revealed on Tuesday (Nov. 5) evening in the United States.

The Associated Press reported Trump led with 292 electoral votes, surpassing the threshold for victory, while Democratic candidate Kamala Harris garnered 224 votes.

As the political landscape evolves, observers will closely watch how these developments influence international relations and policies under Trump's renewed leadership.
