NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) on Wednesday (Nov. 13) awarded certificates of appreciation and free metro passes to four citizens and two police officers, as they demonstrated bravery during a knife attack on the Taipei Metro (台北捷運) last week.

The incident saw a woman injure passengers with a utility knife, and the courageous actions of the passengers drew public praise last Friday. The face of a 17-year-old male student was injured.

Mayor Hou noted that the New Taipei City Police Department (新北市警察局) and the Department of Rapid Transit Systems (捷運局) swiftly arrested the suspect following the incident. Authorities managed the scene efficiently, guiding the public to safety and planning enhanced security measures for metro stations and surrounding areas.

He emphasized the collaborative spirit between New Taipei City and Taipei City, which share a common living circle. He stated that the two cities would integrate resources from various departments and the community to safeguard citizens.

Also, New Taipei Metro (新北捷運公司) expressed gratitude by awarding Officer Hsueh (薛) lifetime free passes, while the other passengers who helped subdue the suspect and an injured high school student, received free metro passes valid for up to 10 years.
