TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Sports Administration (體育署) clarified on Wednesday (Nov. 13) that the upcoming "Sports Ministry" (運動部) will not result from an "upgrade" of the current agency. The Legislative Yuan (立法院) on Wednesday conducted an initial review of the draft "Organic Law of the Sports Ministry" (運動部組織法). Some legislators questioned why the Sports Administration's 2025 budget did not reflect funds for the proposed upgrade.

The Sports Administration explained that the Legislative Yuan (立法院) must still approve the relevant organizational laws before any changes occur. They could not allocate funds without the necessary legal framework. The agency stated that if the Legislative Yuan passes the bill this session, it will draft the responsibilities for each department within the Sports Ministry. The Executive Yuan (行政院) will review these plans, and then the ministry will receive the corresponding personnel and budget allocations.

If the law takes effect in 2025, the administration will follow the Executive Yuan's regulations and continue to assess policy priorities and business development. The Sports Administration added that their 2025 budget, totaling approximately NT$15.9 billion, was prepared under the current legal framework, reflecting a NT$2.3 billion increase from 2024.
