TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan secured the 9th position among 67 countries and economies in the 2024 IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking, released Thursday (Nov. 14) by the International Institute for Management Development (瑞士洛桑管理學院).

The Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA, 數發部) highlighted that Taiwan excelled in seven indicators, ranking in the global top three. Taiwan's consistent ranking reflects its robust digital capabilities, particularly in key indicators like high-tech exports and R&D personnel per thousand people.

These indicators include the market capitalization of IT and media stocks as a GDP percentage, corporate agility, student performance in mathematics (PISA), and the proportion of 25 to 34-year-olds with higher education. Additionally, Taiwan's R&D expenditure and high-tech exports as a percentage of GDP underscore its digital prowess.

Taiwan ranked 19th in the knowledge dimension, which assesses a nation's learning capacity for new technologies, and 7th in technology, evaluating digital innovation capabilities. Its future readiness, gauging digital transformation, improved to 6th, marking a one-rank advancement from last year.

The MODA plans to leverage the report's insights to bolster Taiwan's digital competitiveness and enhance public-private digital transformation collaboration.

The IMD assessment evaluates countries through three dimensions: knowledge, technology, and future readiness, comprising nine sub-factors and 59 indicators. These dimensions measure the ability to adapt, explore, and fully utilize digital transformation.
