TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A Taipei City councilor of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) on Thursday (Nov. 14) raised concerns over fire safety inspections at the Taipei Dome (台北大巨蛋) after discovering a rusty fire extinguisher without an inspection approval mark on an emergency stairway. The incident followed Wednesday's 2024 WBSC Premier 12 event, which drew over 34,000 spectators to the Taipei Dome. Councilor Chen Yi-jun (陳怡君) found a corroded cylinder handle and oxidized exterior in a corner, with the information on the fire extinguisher completely illegible.

The Taipei City Fire Department (台北市政府消防局) investigated the scene and suspected workers discarded the extinguisher. They cited Farglory Group (遠雄) for violating Article 37 of the Fire Services Act (消防法), imposing a potential fine between NT$20,000 and NT$300,000. The department also issued a notice for immediate rectification. The Department of Sports (台北市體育局) demanded that Farglory promptly address and resolve the issue.

In response, Farglory clarified that all fire extinguishers within the venue are accounted for, attributing the presence of the outdated extinguisher to staff negligence, as it was mistakenly used to prop a door open. Farglory admitted the error and pledged to enhance staff training. They apologized to the public for any inconvenience caused by the oversight.
