TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Usagi (天兔) is expected to prompt a land warning at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday (Nov. 14) if its path remains consistent, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署). The initial warning area includes the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島). Typhoon Usagi's center is located about 460 kilometers south-southeast of Eluanbi (鵝鑾鼻) as of 2 p.m., moving northwest to the north at speeds of 19 to 13 kilometers per hour. The maximum wind speed near its center reaches 162 kilometers per hour, the CWA stated.

The CWA advised that vessels navigating or operating in the Bashi Channel (巴士海峽), southern Taiwan Strait (臺灣海峽南部), southeastern Taiwan waters including Orchid Island (蘭嶼) and Green Island (綠島, as well as waters near Dongsha Island (東沙島) should remain vigilant. Starting Thursday, long waves are likely along the eastern and southwestern coasts, the Hengchun Peninsula, Penghu (澎湖), Orchid Island, and Green Island.

 

The CWA also noted that stronger gusts are likely today along the north coast of Keelung (基隆北海岸), Hengchun Peninsula, and Matsu (馬祖). By Friday morning, areas such as the north coast of Keelung, northeastern and southeastern coastal open areas, Hengchun Peninsula, Orchid Island, Green Island, and Matsu will experience strong gusts of 8 to 9.
