TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's energy transformation efforts gained momentum on Thursday (Nov. 14) as Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring stable power supplies for domestic industries and households. The premier underscored the importance of developing green energy and enhancing energy efficiency to bolster the power grid's resilience during the open ceremony of the Microsoft 365 data center.

Microsoft Taiwan marked a significant milestone by launching its Microsoft 365 data center, which took four years to build. The center offers local data storage options for highly regulated sectors like healthcare, finance, and government, providing secure and compliant cloud services. General Manager Sean Pien (卞志祥) stated that the "AI + Taiwan" initiative aims to strengthen Taiwan's tech resilience and nurture local AI talent.

The new data center joins Microsoft's global network of over 60 regions, delivering over 200 cloud services across 90 markets. It supports a range of Microsoft 365 services, including user interactions with Microsoft 365 Copilot, Teams messages, SharePoint content, OneDrive documents, and Exchange Online mailboxes. Pien noted that the center will enhance the efficiency and security of industry cloud services.

Microsoft announced a diverse talent development program to train 30,000 Taiwanese women in AI by June 2025. The initiative includes a six-hour free "AI in a Day" (一日AI上手營) course and assistance in obtaining international professional certifications.
