TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A top of official from the opposition Taiwan Solidarity Union (TSU, 台灣團結聯盟) on Wednesday (Nov. 20) emphasized the damage to the government's image and urged measures to prevent further tragedies within the civil service. A recent suicide case involving a Ministry of Labor (MOL, 勞動部) official has sparked public concern, prompting calls for reform to protect whistleblowers.

TSU Chairperson Chou Ni-an (周倪安) expressed hope prosecutors will conduct an independent investigation to uncover the truth and ensure justice. She highlighted the need for a workplace environment free from bullying, as current regulations aim to promote. Despite these measures, the incident has tarnished the government's reputation.

Chou also stressed the necessity of active government reform to regain the public's and civil servants' trust in the MOL. MOL released an administrative investigation report on Tuesday and is criticized for lenient penalties. In response, Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) on Wednesday expressed a solemn apology to the Executive Yuan (行政院). He called for a thorough investigation by the MOL and announced plans to forward the case to prosecutors to ensure justice for the family involved.

The ongoing developments highlight the urgent need for structural changes and accountability within government institutions.
