TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A cold surge advisory was issued for Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and Miaoli early Thursday (Nov. 28), according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署). A continental cold air mass and radiative cooling have led to significantly lower temperatures across Taiwan.
The CWA reported that the lowest temperatures recorded Thursday morning were 8.4 degrees Celsius in Sanwan Township (三灣鄉), 8.8°C in Shiding District (石碇區), and 9.2°C in Emei Township (峨眉鄉). The Taipei Weather Station (台北氣象站) recorded a low of 14.5°C at 5:50 a.m., indicating a noticeable drop in temperatures in northern Taiwan.
Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) stated that the latest forecast shows a dry and cold air mass will dominate until Sunday morning, keeping the weather clear and stable.
Wu emphasized that the dry cold air mass combined with strong radiative cooling will cause temperatures in northern Taiwan to drop below 10°C early in the morning and at night.
From Sunday to next Wednesday, the cold air mass will weaken, leading to a gradual rise in temperatures. Wu noted that moisture in eastern Taiwan will increase daily from next Monday to Wednesday, raising the chance of brief showers.
Meanwhile, western Taiwan will remain sunny and stable, with significant temperature differences between day and night, urging people to stay warm.
