TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-chuan (李四川) announced Tuesday (Dec. 3) that Taipei Dome (大巨蛋) could host concerts every New Year's Eve, drawing an estimated 200,000 people, which is why the city government plans to establish a long-term traffic management SOP for these events to ensure smooth operations and public safety.
For the first time, the New Year's Eve party in front of Taipei City Hall will coincide with a concert by A-Mei (張惠妹) at the Taipei Dome. Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) instructed Lee to convene an emergency meeting on Tuesday (Dec. 3) to coordinate efforts.
Hsieh Ming-hong (謝銘鴻), head of Taipei's Transportation Department, predicted over 200,000 attendees at this year's New Year's activities. He emphasized a strategy prioritizing pedestrian movement over vehicle flow, mainly using ground-level dispersal methods.
Hsieh noted that while past New Year's events relied heavily on the MRT's Red and Blue lines, this year will see additional shuttle buses directing crowds to the Green line, alongside confirmed traffic control measures. Mayor Chiang stressed the necessity for the city government to develop an SOP for future Taipei Dome concerts on New Year's Eve.
