TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A tragic accident unfolded on Wednesday (Dec. 25) evening when a worker fell from a height while setting up a stage for New Year's Eve celebrations at Taipei City Hall (台北市政府). The worker, hired by a subcontractor of the stage contractor, did not survive the fall from the scaffolding.
Taipei's Department of Labor (台北市勞檢處) reported that the worker fell from a platform approximately 15 meters high while installing a motor without securing a safety harness. After receiving a report, the department immediately dispatched personnel to the scene and mandated improvements before work could continue.
The labor department indicated that if the investigation reveals any violations by the business unit, fines could reach up to NT$300,000. Additionally, breaches of Article 37, Paragraph 2, Subparagraph 1 of the "Occupational Safety and Health Act" (職業安全衛生法) may result in imprisonment of up to three years, detention, or a fine not exceeding NT$300,000, or both.
