TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The renowned Thai restaurant "baan" in Taipei, recognized by the Michelin Plate, will close its doors on Jan. 30, 2025. The announcement, made on Wednesday (Dec. 25), has left many food enthusiasts disheartened. Co-founded in 2018 by Bangkok Michelin-starred chef Chef Ton and MMHG founder Richie Lin, "baan" has become a culinary landmark.

Nestled near the Zhongxiao Dunhua (忠孝敦化) MRT Station, the restaurant has frequently ranked among Asia's top 50 restaurants. It is celebrated for its authentic Thai ingredients and unique homemade sauces. Signature dishes include dry-fried yellow curry soft-shell crab, spicy pork neck salad, tom yum seafood soup, and lemongrass rice, all of which have captivated diners.

In a social media post, the restaurant announced a temporary closure for a rebranding initiative. They hinted at introducing a new dining concept at the same location. "Time flies, and in the blink of an eye, baan has accompanied everyone through six wonderful years!" the announcement stated, "During this time, we have been honored to bring authentic Thai flavors into everyone's lives. Watching everyone enjoy food and share joyful moments at baan has always been our greatest motivation to move forward."

With over a thousand reviews on Google, patrons have consistently praised "baan" for its exquisite dishes and warm service. Many have likened dining there to a journey back to Bangkok, highlighting the restaurant's authentic Thai flavors and ingredients.
