TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Education (MOE, 教育部) confirmed on Thursday (Jan. 2) that I-Kuan Tao College (一貫道天皇學院) in Kaohsiung City (高雄市) will cease operations starting August 2025. This decision follows the college's application for closure, prompted by a sharp decline in enrollment. As the institution prepares for its final chapter, only 43 students remain, all of whom will receive assistance to complete their education before the college's legacy comes to an end.
The ministry reached an agreement with the college, pending the submission of additional plans for student transfer arrangements to the ministry's closure review committee. The MOE, at the end of 2024, updated its "Higher Education Institution Information Disclosure Platform" (大專校院校務資訊公開平台) statistics, revealing that the college had NT$13.29 million in available funds for the 2023-2024 academic year. This places it among the 10 most financially strained colleges nationwide.
Founded in 2015, I-Kuan Tao College, a religious institution, aims to cultivate talent in preaching and religious affairs management. As of the 2023-2024 academic year, the school employed five full-time teachers, one part-time teacher, and one foreign full-time teacher. The ministry recently reported that 22 schools, including 10 elementary and junior high schools, eight high schools, and four colleges, have suspended enrollment or operations for the 2023-2024 academic year.
