TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Minister of Economic Affairs J.W. Kuo (郭智輝) unveiled on Wednesday (Jan. 8) that NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) will provide further details of its plans to establish an overseas headquarters in Taiwan during COMPUTEX in June. His comments addressed speculation regarding the potential site, notably the recently demolished First Funeral Parlor in Taipei.
At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in the U.S., Huang discussed considerations for the new headquarters, noting the limitations of the current office space and the ongoing search for a suitable location. Speculation suggests the former funeral parlor site may host the headquarters, with Huang set to confirm the location at Taipei COMPUTEX.
In related news, Minister Kuo highlighted the significance of a NT$100 billion subsidy intended to offset previous public electricity price absorptions. Taiwan Power Company (台電) faces financial hurdles, with reports forecasting a potential NT$40 billion loss in 2024. Without the subsidy, financial management may deteriorate, requiring borrowing and impacting the financial outlook.
Addressing the retirement of two deputy ministers, Kuo noted that both had reached appropriate age and tenure for retirement and have personal plans for the future. The ministry has prepared successors, with announcements forthcoming upon confirmation.
