TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei City Department of Health reported on Wednesday (Jan. 8) that hospitals have not yet notified them of any related cases related to four patrons dining at the Din Tai Fung (鼎泰豐) A4 branch who experienced vomiting and diarrhea last Saturday. The situation remains under investigation.
A customer claimed that after dining at Din Tai Fung later that day, their family fell ill and tested positive for norovirus. Din Tai Fung acknowledged receiving a complaint about post-meal discomfort on Monday. The restaurant expressed concern for the customer's condition, checked the health of their staff, and found no similar symptoms. They have not received additional complaints.
In a separate incident, the INPARADISE (饗饗) Xinyi Breeze branch faced reports of food poisoning. Food safety concerns have emerged in Taipei after several diners reported illnesses following recent visits to these two popular restaurants.
The department received complaints of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea from customers who dined there last week. By Wednesday noon, hospitals reported 19 cases. Authorities issued a closure order Tuesday afternoon but discovered the restaurant continued operations that evening. Under the "Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation" (食品安全衛生管理法), the restaurant could face fines of up to NT$3 million.
