TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC, 交通部) announced Thursday (Jan. 9) that Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC, 台灣高鐵) Chairman Chiang Yao-chung (江耀宗) will not continue his role next week, with THSRC President James Jeng (鄭光遠) temporarily stepping in.
Chiang, who has served since Oct. 18, 2016, helped the HSR achieve record-breaking performance over his 8-year, 3-month tenure. The MOTC stated that it recognized Chiang's pivotal contributions, noting that Taiwan High Speed Rail transformed into a government-assisted, publicly listed company in 2015.
The ministry expressed gratitude for his efforts in establishing the rail as a global benchmark in sustainable rail transport. To ensure operational stability, the MOTC emphasized the importance of Jeng's expertise, particularly with ongoing negotiations for new train contracts with Japan.
The ministry stated that the transition marks a significant moment for Taiwan's rail industry, promising continued quality service and innovation. Looking ahead, the focus remains on maintaining the high standards set under Chiang's leadership while navigating new challenges and opportunities. The MOTC's decision reflects a commitment to leveraging experienced leadership for the rail's future endeavors.
