TAIPEI (TVBS News)—Taipei City's Department of Cultural Affairs (台北市文化局) announced on Thursday (Jan. 9) that it has fined 34 cases of ticket scalping related to Jay Chou's (周杰倫) concert at the Taipei Dome (台北大巨蛋) last year, totaling over NT$5.45 million. The city government has taken significant steps to combat illegal scalping by forming a cross-departmental task force focused on preventing such activities, particularly targeting Jay Chou's Carnival World Tour.
The department revealed that the highest fine for a single case reached NT$2.64 million. An individual resold nine tickets, initially priced at NT$5,880 each, for NT$40,000 per ticket, exceeding the original price by more than five times. This action led to penalties under the "Development of the Cultural and Creative Industries Act" (文化創意產業發展法). The department stated that the recent number of cases attempting to circumvent the fact of resale at a higher price by means of bundling other items into the sale are illegal acts, regardless of whether or not the transaction is concluded.
Officials have urged citizens to protect their personal information and avoid lending their social media accounts to others to prevent involvement in criminal activities. The Department of Cultural Affairs emphasized the importance of vigilance against potential legal issues. As the city continues its crackdown on scalping, residents and concertgoers are encouraged to remain informed and cautious, ensuring a fair and lawful ticketing process for future events.
