YUNLIN (TVBS News) — One of Taiwan's top 10 flower landscapes, the Yunlin County (雲林縣) Citong Township (莿桐鄉) flower sea, has begun blooming across 33 hectares, inviting visitors to explore its beauty through the Lunar New Year. The Citong Township Office will host the Flower Festival (花海節) starting Saturday (Jan. 18), offering floral views and local delicacies.
Citong Township Representative Liao Chiu-jung (廖秋蓉) highlighted the national fame of the festival, emphasizing the expanded 33-hectare area this year. The flowers, including zinnias and sunflowers, are blooming till Feb. 1 along County Road 156 to "Shuzijiaodifang Park" (樹仔腳堤防公園), Liao said.
The festival features five art installations, such as Guanyin God of Wealth (觀音財神) and Childhood Farm Fun (童年農村樂), for visitors to photograph. From Saturday to Sunday, those who photograph three of the installations will receive promotional gifts while supplies last. The festival opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday, offering flower seeds, organic fertilizer, and small flower pots to early attendees, limited to 500 sets.
Shuzijiao Community Secretary Lin Chih-hao (林志豪) noted that after the festival, farmers will prepare for spring plowing. Another flower appreciation festival, starting on Feb. 1, will include activities like a Little Flower Fairy contest and DIY flower crafts. Interested participants can register on the Citong Township Office's website.
