TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC, 國科會) aims to bolster Taiwan's tech sector by forming Chips Team Taiwan, focusing on drones, space, and robotics, the NSTC minister announced Tuesday (Jan. 14). The initiative seeks to integrate with the supply chains of democratic nations, enhancing Taiwan's technological prowess.
NSTC Minister Wu Cheng-wen (吳誠文) noted that IC design, manufacturing, and packaging companies will join Chips Team Taiwan. These firms will provide system requirements and specifications to interested participants. NSTC discussed the 2026 government tech development and science park planning during a committee meeting.
Wu conveyed external members' support for increased tech budgets and public-private collaboration to strengthen Taiwan's tech leadership. He underscored Taiwan's need to become a key player in democratic supply chains, highlighting the importance of bilingual education and recommending interagency promotion.
