TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese badminton Player Lin Chun-yi (林俊易) advanced to the quarterfinals of the India Open on Thursday (Jan. 17) after defeating Christo Popov of France in straight sets. Lin, ranked 15th in the world, bounced back from an early-season setback at the Malaysia Open and now looks forward to further success.

Lin showcased his formidable skills in the tournament's opening round by defeating India's Lakshya Sen 2-0. During the round of 16, Lin overcame a tense first game against Popov, missing six-game points before clinching it 25-23. He then dominated the second game with a decisive 10-0 run, winning 21-11 to secure his place in the next round.

Lin will face Indonesian star Jonatan Christie in the quarterfinals, aiming to continue his winning streak. Lin's performance at the India Open follows his victories at the Badminton Swiss Open and Yonex Taipei Open last year, highlighting his potential for further achievements this season.

Meanwhile, the men's doubles team of Wang Chi-lin (王齊麟) and Chiu Hsiang-chieh (邱相榤) faced disappointment, losing 1-2 to South Korea's Jin Yong and Kang Min Hyuk in the round of 16. This marks their second consecutive exit at this stage following the Malaysia Open.
