TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A top official from the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC, 大陸委員會) revealed on Thursday that over 85% of national security cases involved retired military and police personnel, highlighting the concerning state of affairs. MAC Deputy Minister Liang Wen-chieh (梁文傑) drew parallels between the recent Kao An-kuo (高安國) case and previous incidents involving the Rehabilitation Alliance (復康聯盟黨), suggesting a systematic effort by China to cultivate influence.

He emphasized the difficulty in gathering evidence for espionage and national security-related cases. Liang stated that the CCP is systematically and organically nurturing the forces, urging the courts to prioritize these matters. The High Prosecutors Office indicted Kao and six others under the "National Security Act" (國家安全法) for organizing activities aimed at undermining the government. Kao allegedly received funds from China to establish an armed organization in Taiwan, planning operations to support a potential Chinese invasion.

The total illicit gains amounted to over NT$9.62 million. Liang's remarks underscore the pressing need for vigilance and legal rigor in addressing these threats. As Taiwan navigates these challenges, the focus remains on safeguarding national security and ensuring the integrity of its institutions.
