TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Eric Chu (朱立倫), chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨), criticized the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) on Friday (Jan. 24) for allegedly deceiving the public and using emotional manipulation to spread misinformation. The Presidential Office (總統府) recently cut Lunar New Year bonuses for grassroots employees, and the Executive Yuan (行政院) failed to provide sign language interpretation at a press conference.

The ruling party blamed the opposition for budget cuts. Chu argued that the budget had increased by over NT$70 billion from last year, suggesting that it should suffice for national operations. He also noted that this year's central government budget reached a historic high of over NT$2.9 trillion.

Chu urged President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) to use the approved budget effectively to implement policies beneficial to the nation and its people. Lai previously stated that the budget cuts left the country "like a car without fuel"; however, Chu countered, asserting the budget is ample.

Chu emphasized that the temporarily frozen budget items in the Legislative Yuan (立法院) only require a special report for unfreezing and that full implementation is in the country's best interest.
