TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A strong continental cold air mass is sweeping south, causing temperatures to plummet across Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) announced Monday (Feb. 3).
In northern Taiwan, temperatures continue to drop, with morning lows at 16 degrees Celsius and evening temperatures falling between 10 and 12°C. Other regions experience daytime highs of 17 to 22°C, with nighttime temperatures dipping to 13 to 15°C.
Keelung's north coast and the Greater Taipei mountain area face prolonged rain, with a high chance of heavy rain in some areas. Hualien, Taitung, and central-southern mountain regions encounter brief showers.
On the offshore islands, Penghu sees temperatures ranging from 14 to 16 °C, Kinmen from 10 to 14°C, and Matsu from 9 to 11°C, prompting a call for residents to stay warm.
Strong northeast winds affect open coastal areas from Taoyuan to Tainan, as well as the Hengchun Peninsula, Green Island, Orchid Island, Penghu, and Matsu, with gusts reaching 9 to 10 on the Beaufort scale. The eastern coast and Hengchun Peninsula also face high waves, urging caution for those engaging in seaside activities.
