TAIPEI (TVBS News)—A cold wave swept through Taiwan, causing Yushan's (玉山) North Peak to experience snowfall at 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday (Feb. 4). The snowfall, which lasted more than an hour, accumulated to 1 cm. The strong cold air mass brought temperatures in Taipei down to 10.4 degrees Celsius, meeting the cold wave threshold.

The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) reported that Yushan's temperature plummeted to minus 4.2°C at 7:30 a.m., marking the coldest in Taiwan. Snowfall commenced at 12:50 p.m., blanketing the area in white. Icy pellets also fell near Paiyun Lodge (排雲山莊), making trails slippery and hazardous.

Yushan Weather Station (玉山氣象站) noted the cold air's impact, with snow and thick rime ice forming on vegetation. Due to treacherous conditions, the Yushan National Park Administration (玉山國家公園管理處) advised climbers to equip themselves with ice axes, crampons, and helmets.

Officials stressed the importance of risk assessment before attempting to summit. Climbers should not attempt the ascent without proper preparation, as conditions remain harsh, they advised.
