TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) announced on Friday (Feb. 7) the snow forecast for mountains over 3,000 meters in central Taiwan from Friday to Saturday morning and for those over 1,000 meters in northern Taiwan from Friday evening to Saturday.
A cold front is sweeping across Taiwan, bringing a chance of snow to high mountains and plummeting temperatures. CWA Meteorologist Zeng Zhao-Cheng (曾昭誠) stated that the cold front will drop northern Taiwan's nighttime temperatures to 8-10 degrees Celsius, while central and southern areas will see lows of 11-13℃.
Zeng warned residents to stay warm as the cold spell will persist until Monday morning. Daytime temperatures will fall to about 10℃ in northern Taiwan and 15℃ in central and southern regions, marking a 6-7℃ drop from Friday.
Zeng noted that the cold front will weaken on Monday, with temperatures gradually rising. However, a new weather front will pass Wednesday, bringing the northeast monsoon and reducing temperatures in northern Taiwan and Yilan to 18-20℃. The weather bureau predicts isolated showers north of Taoyuan and eastern regions on Saturday, with more rain expected Sunday and Monday along the Keelung north coast and eastern areas.
Zeng highlighted the potential for rain Tuesday and Wednesday across Taiwan, with scattered showers likely in northern and eastern parts after the front passes. He advised vigilance for fog or low clouds from Monday evening to Wednesday in areas north of Tainan and in Kinmen and Matsu.
