CHIAYI (TVBS News) — The Chiayi City Government (嘉義市政府) announced on Friday (Feb. 7) plans to host an outdoor broadcast event from Feb. 21 to 23 at Jhongjheng Park (中正公園). The event invites fans to don red, blue, and white attire to cheer for Taiwan's team in the World Baseball Classic (WBC) qualifiers.
The qualifiers, scheduled from Feb. 21 to 25 at Taipei Dome (台北大巨蛋), will see Taiwan competing against Nicaragua, Spain, and South Africa for two spots in the 2026 main event. Chiayi Mayor Huang Min-hui (黃敏惠) recalled Taiwan's victory in the WBSC Premier12 last year, saying the passion and excitement from that moment remain unforgettable.
Chiayi City Government, in collaboration with Chunghwa Telecom (中華電信), has secured public broadcast rights and will set up a 400-inch screen in the park. They will also provide a limited number of cheersticks for attendees. The city government noted that on Feb. 25, the second-ranked team is expected to face the third-ranked team. Based on Taiwan's performance, they will decide whether to extend the event.
