TAIPEI (TVBS News) —  Paul Liu (劉鏡清), Taiwan's National Development Council (NDC, 國發會) Minister and a Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, 台積電) board member, departed for the U.S. on Saturday (Feb. 8) to attend a board meeting scheduled for the coming Monday.

With the Legislative Yuan session approaching, Liu plans to return to Taiwan immediately after the meeting without engaging in other official business.

TSMC's board comprises 10 directors, including seven independent ones. The National Development Fund, TSMC's largest shareholder, holds one board seat, which Liu has occupied as the corporate director since June 2024. The fund initially invested NT$497 million (around US$15.16 million) in 1986, and with a current stake of 6.38%, or approximately 1.653 million shares, it enjoys a remarkable 3,350-fold profit.

This year, TSMC relocated its routine board meeting to the U.S., with the market anticipating discussions on the progress of the Arizona plant's construction. The meeting gains added significance following recent remarks by U.S. President Trump, who threatened a 100% tariff on Taiwanese chips.
