TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Education (MOE, 教育部) announced on Monday (Feb. 24) that a food delivery system using GPS tracking and AI management has ensured timely and safe meal delivery to 1,300 schools, benefitting 240,000 students in remote areas. The innovative system launched with the National Cheng Kung University (成功大學), aims to deliver hot, nutritious lunches to rural students.

The K-12 Education Administration (國民及學前教育署), in collaboration with the university's Artificial Intelligence for Digital Transformation Research Center (AI4DT), developed the system to manage delivery routes, control transport times, and monitor temperatures. This ensures that students enjoy hot lunches that meet the Ministry of Health and Welfare's safety standards. Officials measure the core temperature of each dish before it leaves the kitchen and continuously monitor the temperature during transport.

Over the past three years, 21 counties and cities have implemented this system, benefiting thousands of students. The K-12 Education Administration reviews temperature sensor data daily to maintain food safety standards, and it plans to continue promoting the system to ensure warm lunches despite low temperatures.

In 2025, the administration plans to introduce a warning interface for school staff to swiftly address any temperature anomalies. This system has already collected extensive data on cooking and transport temperatures, allowing for process optimization. As the system expands, it promises to enhance the quality of school lunches across Taiwan.
