TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei City Egg Merchants Association (台北市蛋商業同業公會) announced a wholesale egg price increase of NT$3 per catty, effective Monday (Feb. 24), due to a drop in egg production caused by colder weather. Lin Tien-lai (林天來), the association's chairman, stated that the new wholesale price is NT$35 per catty.
The Ministry of Agriculture (MOA, 農業部) reported a slight decrease in daily egg production to 126,000 cartons, each containing 200 eggs, down from 127,000 cartons. However, the Poultry Association Republic of China (中華民國養雞協會) estimated daily production remains at 130,000 cartons. Lin emphasized that despite daily production still exceeding market demand, the slight decrease justifies the price hike.
According to the Central News Agency (CNA, 中央社), Lin also noted that the wholesale price will rise from NT$22.5 to NT$25.5 per catty on Wednesday. He reiterated that the price adjustment aligns with the recent dip in production. As the egg market adjusts to these changes, consumers and retailers will likely monitor future fluctuations closely.
