TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Panadol (普拿疼) painkillers maker will increase prices for seven of its medications starting March 15 due to rising operational and product costs. The price hike will range from NT$9 to NT$20, reflecting an approximate 5% to 6% increase, the company said on Wednesday (Feb. 26).
According to Haleon UK Services Limited (赫力昂股份有限公司) announced the price adjustment will affect seven Panadol's Cold series, including Cold and Flu Extra Strength, Cold and Flu Tablets, Day and Night Tablets, Cough Tablets, Sinus Tablets, Hot Drink Extra Strength, and Cold & Flu Hot Remedy.
Pharmacist Shen Tsai-ying (沈采穎) noted that rising salaries and utility expenses have led to gradual price increases in the pharmaceutical industry since last year, marking Panadol's Cold series as the first wave of price hikes post-Lunar New Year.
Shen advised the public against assuming that "advertised medicines cure all diseases," and emphasized using medications specific to symptoms. For instance, Shen recommended ibuprofen for sore throats, which usually involve inflammation, and acetaminophen for fevers. She also suggested consulting a clinic if flu is suspected.
