TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese boxer Chen Nien-chin (陳念琴) clinched the gold medal in the 70-kilogram division at the 76th International Boxing Tournament Strandja in Bulgaria on Sunday (March 2). Chen secured a decisive 4-0 victory against Greek opponent Elisavet Konstantinidou, showcasing her prowess in a higher weight class.
Chen, who earned a bronze medal in the 66-kilogram category at last year's Paris Olympics, stepped up to the 70-kilogram division this time. In the championship bout, she and Konstantinidou cautiously tested each other in the first round, with all five judges awarding Chen a perfect score of 10.
She intensified her offensive strategy in the second round, landing multiple hits that prompted the referee to pause for a standing count. Despite one judge scoring her an 8 by the end of this round, Chen maintained her momentum. In the third round, she unleashed a powerful assault while expertly dodging her opponent's attempts to close the score gap.
Ultimately, Chen triumphed with scores of 30-26, 28-28, 30-26, 30-26, and 30-26. Her victory highlights her adaptability across weight classes and reinforces her status as a formidable force in women's boxing.
