TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Criminal Investigation Division of the Taipei City Police Department (北市刑大) on Thursday (March 6), stated that the case of actor Darren Wang's (王大陸) involvement in inciting violence against a driver has led to a separate investigation into a police officer's misconduct.
Authorities in Taipei have reported a suspected police leak, as a detective captain, surnamed Liu, mistakenly sent personal information to Wang's wealthy friend, You, unrelated to the assault case. The division's internal affairs took Liu and two witnesses for questioning, sending them to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office on suspicion of leaking information. After interviews, prosecutors charged witnesses Chiu (邱) and Lin ( with falsifying official documents, releasing them on bail at NT$50,000 and NT$100,000, respectively.
Prosecutors completed Liu's questioning around 11 p.m. and charged him with leaking information, falsifying entries into official documents, and violating personal data protection laws, setting his bail at NT$200,000. Liu realized his mistake after reading reports about Wang and voluntarily reported the error to Lu Chun-hung (盧俊宏), the division's head.
Originally slated for a promotion to captain on Friday (March 7), Liu faced a search of his office led by New Taipei prosecutors, who also detained him and the two witnesses for further investigation. As the case unfolds, the legal implications for those involved could extend beyond the immediate charges, potentially affecting their careers and reputations.
