TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Weightlifting champion Kuo Hsing-chun (郭婞淳) will compete in the 15th National Indigenous Games (全國原住民族運動會) in Kaohsiung City on March 21. This marks her first event since winning a bronze medal at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, where she became Taiwan's first athlete to medal in three consecutive Olympic Games.
Coach Lin Geng-neng (林敬能) revealed Kuo plans to participate in two major international competitions this year, including the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Zhejiang, China, on May 9 and the World Championship later this year. Lin noted Kuo's injuries are unlikely to fully heal, so they will compensate by increasing her muscle strength and enhancing her advantages. They are also splitting her daily training volume across two days.
Kuo has been training at Dou-Nan Senior High School (斗南高中) in Yunlin County, a location Lin humorously recalled as having good vibes before the Tokyo Olympics five years ago. Following the National Indigenous Games, Lin disclosed Kuo intends to train in China by late April or early May. He hopes she will return to a top-five world ranking.
