TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) emphasized Taiwan's commitment to green energy development during a legislative session on policy inquiries on Tuesday (March 11). He expressed his expectation to engage actively in research for the latest nuclear power by cooperating with partners possessing advanced technologies.

Responding to the Director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT, 美國在台協會) Raymond Greene's statements highlighting the use of nuclear power in Taiwan during the interview with the Liberty Times, Cho reiterated Taiwan's reliance on democratic allies like the U.S. for economic and cultural partnerships. He noted the government's efforts to transition coal-fired plants to gas-fired units to prioritize carbon reduction.

Greene expressed energy concerns for U.S.-Taiwan companies, given Taiwan's dependence on imported energy. He stated the U.S. could provide reliable sources, including natural gas, renewable energy, and nuclear power. Cho acknowledged Taiwan's role as a crucial player in the global industrial chain, which cannot allow any energy incidents to happen. He assured that the government is responsible for industry and the global community.

Furthermore, Cho noted that the No. 2 reactor at the Third Nuclear Power Plant is set to retire in May, with procedures following the Nuclear Safety Act still pending legislative amendments.
