TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) expressed his full commitment on Tuesday (March 11) to preparing reports on the general budget and the fiscal division law veto cases before reporting these two veto cases to the Legislative Yuan (立法院). Cho urged the Legislative Yuan (立法院) to reassess veto cases during a full committee meeting.
The Legislative Yuan invited Premier Cho to report on the Central Government's General Budget veto case for the 114th fiscal year and prepare for questioning. Cho emphasized the necessity to explain the situation to the public, regardless of whether the veto cases pass, especially given the significant amounts of the budget that have been cut or frozen. Premier Cho noted that the Executive Yuan (行政院) will elaborate policies with the public when appropriate.
On Feb. 27, the Executive Yuan passed the veto proposal, identifying obstacles in the "Act Governing the Allocation of Government Revenues and Expenditures" (財政收支劃分法) and the central government's general budget passed by the 11th session of the Legislative Yuan. The proposal was later submitted for veto after being approved by the President.
The Legislative Yuan decided on March 7 to set the voting dates for the veto cases. The final agenda, proposed by the Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) caucus and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) caucus, scheduled to deal with the general budget and fiscal division law reconsideration cases for March 11 and 12.
Currently, KMT and TPP occupy the majority in the Legislative Yuan, while the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) holds the ruling party. Tension has increased by KMT cooperating with TPP vetoed the Central Government General budget as a measure to boycott DPP since the 2024 national election.
